This is an estimate of the amount of money you will need for things such as toiletries, an occassional trip to the store, etc. You do not pay this to the college, but these personal expenses should be considered when you are budgeting.

Your financial aid is based on that right? To be more specific...fafsa sees that assumed amount and provides you with financial aid for that assumed amount.
