Full Version: Difficulties with Financial Aid

I'm wondering who I can talk to about the negative experience I've had with financial aid during my time at Buffalo State. I've never filed a complaint about any office before. I've attended three universities and have never experienced so many "problems" or "mixups" as I have at Buff State.

More so than the clerical errors that have prevented my loans from being disbursed (it's week six and I still don't have my refund at no fault of mine), is the unhelpful attitude I've encountered with financial aid representatives. I work in customer service and as a general rule, we try to assist people with a positive and polite attitude. I have never been aggressive in conversation or said anything that would warrant such hostile responses.

Today I spoke to a woman whose voice from the moment she picked up the phone was that of someone being inconvenienced. She sighed at every inquiry, gave me another number, and hung up without saying goodbye.

My overall experience at this college has been positive but every semester my battle with financial aid leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

We apologize for any inconvenience students have encountered at the financial aid office. We work very hard to process a large number of financial aid programs for timely disbursement of aid. It is not an easy task and can become quite stressful for the staff. Students are more than welcome to send an email to our office at finaid@buffalostate.edu with their comments and they will be forwarded to the director, Kent McGowan, or you can schedule an appointment with him as well.
