I wouldn't have been able to afford a Mac either but i got a scholarship award with a nice check at my high school graduation and my parents loaned me the rest so i could have it in time for school.

Our daughter was just accepted and is majoring in Fashion Design too! We should have them connect so they can have at least one person they know taking their same major. Does your daughter have a roommate lined up yet? In reading these posts about which Freshman dorm to request it sounds like Neumann is the one we're going to request but I've advised my daughter to try and look for other kids from our home town (Livonia) who may be in the Towers and looking for a roommate. I guess the Towers are where everyone wants to live because they have quads and 4 rooms share a bathroom???? So, if you have any thoughts on this let me know. Is your daughter already designing clothes? Our daughter wants to focus on accessory design and doesn't even sew! Phew! I hope this works out; I'm a nervous wreck about letting her go to college especially after reading one post about how dirty the campus is.....Good luck to you and your daughter! Ask your daughter if she wants to email our daughter and I'll do the same. Thanks! Lynn

i honestly don't know why people think the campus is dirty- i was very skeptical about the whole college thing and i didn't even visit the campus before coming here in fall 06- i have to say that i was plesently surprised when i didn't dislike it at all- until the storm in early october i really liked the landscape but the storm damaged a lot of trees and it isn't quite as nice anymore- as far as the dorms go- i am in porter and haven't been in any of the others but the 5th floor(where i live) is pretty calm and everyone seems to get along quite well- i was also skeptical of the hall style(as opposed to suite style) living because of the difference in bathroom situation and have been surprised to find that it isn't bad at all- at least on my floor people keep the bathroom clean and it depends on the time of day if there are many people in there to take a shower

as far as the dorms go- i am in porter and haven't been in any of the others but the 5th floor(where i live) is pretty calm and everyone seems to get along quite well- i was also skeptical of the hall style(as opposed to suite style) living because of the difference in bathroom situation and have been surprised to find that it isn't bad at all- at least on my floor people keep the bathroom clean and it depends on the time of day if there are many people in there to take a shower I'm actually on the fifth floor of Porter as well and I would have to say that while this floor isn't as dirty as most, it still isn't as clean as it could be. The hallways are so dingy - they look as though they haven't been repainted in twenty years. The blinds in the rooms are also all mismatched, some being different shades of tan from the others... This whole place just needs to be updated.

granted it could be better, but we aren't paying for 5 star residence areas either- while some of the blinds may not match and the halls could use some new paint both do the job that they need to... i tend to look past the building itself and am just happy that all the people on our floor are really nice and can get along without being really noisy like some of the other floors( 3rd floor is especially noisy- at least when i'm down there in my friend's room after 9 at night)

This floor isn't that quiet, but it is not nearly as loud as the second, third or sixth. The ninth floor seems really dead.
