Buffalo, New York- Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated-Buffalo Alumnae Chapter is sponsoring a Walk-to-save-Darfur on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the University at Buffalo Alumni Arena (inside track). Registration will begin at 9am, and the walk will begin at 10am. Registration is $10 for an individual walker. Teams are welcome and invited to wear their organization’s tee shirts or paraphernalia. Registrants are encouraged to collect pledges as well. The purpose of this 5K walkathon is to raise awareness in the community concerning the devastation and atrocities occurring in Darfur, and funds to help the Save Darfur Coalition. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated’s commitment to service has been well documented over its 96 year history in communities across the country and dates back to its first public act as an organization with the Women’s Suffrage March of 1913. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated holds the distinction of being the only group of Black women in that historic demonstration. The Buffalo Alumnae Chapter, chartered in 1942, has established a rich presence in the community by participating in a variety of programs and initiatives over the years. The current President is Robyn Tate. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Founded on January 13, 1913 at Howard University in Washington, DC, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a Sisterhood of over 200,000 predominantly Black college educated women in over 900 chapters located in the United States, England, Japan, Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the Republic of Korea. |
