The wind has been pretty harsh lately, so that's probably why service has been so weird.

Hey is there a reason that I can't download anything faster than about 40 kb/s? This includes in campus buildings (I'm on a computer in the library and the problem is the same) and dorms (I live in T4). Now I heard there was an increase in the overall bandwidth by 40%... was this a lie? Or is there just something wrong with the internet access on campus?

I agree. People should be allowed to post in the forums so long as the post(s) have substance and are relevant to the topic. It seems irresponsible and borderline offensive to lock threads based solely on very poor discretion.

My only question is whether or not I can use Ventrilo and/or TeamSpeak. I can give the IT guys all the pertinent information such as the IP and listening port if it helps. I am a WoW addict and wanna be able to participate in raids =P

I've been on campus since Monday, and WoW does work quite well - for now. Surely when everyone is on campus and their spyware-ridden, bandwidth-hogging connections are used the latencies will be a lot higher =P

Edit: I just tested my connection on DSL Reports, to give you an idea of the kind of connection I have right now...

I too am curious about this... If ports are given for servers for TeamSpeak and/or Ventrilo, will we be able to access servers and speak to friends/family/teammates? Skype is also in the realm of my question, as it's VoIP technology is a great, inexpensive way for students to talk to their families.

I was told that routers are illegal and/or won't work. If anyone can confirm/deny this I would like to know because I have a laptop and a desktop both with internet connections and a router.

I myself am in a fraternity at Buffalo State (Phi Sigma Kappa). I love it, and think it's one of the most fulfilling experiences I've had since I started attending college. But everyone has their own opinions on the matter, and some people aren't for it. That's cool too. If anyone wants more information on Phi Sigma Kappa, fraternities or Buffalo State in general you're more than welcome to contact me via private message or on AOL Instant Messenger (masterofmulletz).

QUOTE (lazyhyperchick @ Aug 6 2006, 09:10 AM) *
You and your friend obviously are not old enough to be attending college.

Why is that? Because someone young is having a hard time living by herself? Unlike a vast amount of students who live on campus, my friend and a minority of others have serious problems that they cannot have any help from their parents about. So, before you jump to conclusions and decide to judge someone based on their socio-economic status, maturity, or whatever category you see fit, see how it feels to be in someone elses shoes. I think you would find it humbling.

Hi I have a question for any of you people that could possibly provide me with an answer... My friend is homeless now because she thought she would get a room assignment but so far has not. What is Buffalo State's position on a HOMELESS STUDENT? She is good enough to pay tuition but not live there, although she has no where else to go? This has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard coming from this institution (and i use the term "Institution" lightly). Anyway, what can, can't, and should be done about this? I honestly would like to hear the input of fellow students, especially those who pay the college the exorbitent fees that come with the priviledge of living on campus.

Note: I am more than willing to contact the media for their assistance.

I was told two different dates for upperclassmen move-in (towers and moore): 8/26 and 8/27. What is the correct date?

How much more bandwidth are we getting, and will the packet shaper be better able to handle things like gaming (PC or console)?

I use AVG Free Edition and it works well for me. Do I have to download McAfee and use it in order to get on the network when I get back to school? Or can I keep my current Anti-Virus software with no problem? I'm fine with either, I just want to know before I get there.

I'd suggest Full Tilt Poker. I've tried many programs and feel that Full Tilt is the best program available.

Do you mean Steam? That works as well. The only things that I can't connect to are Battle for Middle Earth (EA game) and my PS2 but that will hopefully be remedied within the next week or so.

Hi Pad. Let me first suggest that you not ask for help in illegal file sharing in this forum, as that could possibly get you in trouble. Secondly, mIRC is blocked at the border here, which means you cannot access it from dorm halls.
