How do you go about deciding what classes you should and have to take?

When you go to orienation, depending on which orientation you go to, on the first day there should be some kind of sign-up so that you can register for fall courses. In the meanwhile you can always check out the website where they have a list of majors and minors (which you've probably seen) and an itinerary of what goes on each day at the orientations.

I'm sure they'll let us know when we get there. But it is a good point, is there any list of prerequisites that or courses needed for each semester, like english, math, science etc.

Just be careful when you are with your advisor. Sometimes things get screwed up. Pay attention to your own audit sheet (you'll learn what that is). After your first semester you pretty much make your schedule on your own choosing your own classes. Just a heads up! biggrin.gif

Just make sure you pay attention and know exactly what you have to take and when you should take them. It's not that hard. Don't be afraid to talk to someone. I'm a senior and I went to see one of my teachers just to double check and make sure I am taking what I should be to graduate.

Dear Dbro-if you are interested in finding out what classes to take please refer to our online catalog at http://www.buffalostate.edu/undergradcat.xml. Also-depending upon what major you are interested in-your department webpage will have the required classes listed. If you want to register ahead of time for classes you can through SABRE and then have your advisor double check your schedule. If you need to change what you registered for, you can do that by using the drop/add feature in Sabre. If you have any questions before school starts, please call the admissions office at 878-5713 and ask to speak to a counselor.

Hope this helps-
your friendly admissions advisor

Sincerely your Buffalo State Admissions Counselor

On the second day of orientation all students meet with an advisor who helps them understand the general requirements to graduate and then they pick and register for the specific classes they'll take in the fall.

Not to disagree with the other post, but we (the College) encourage students to meet with their advisors every semester to talk about their classes and their college plans. Advisors can help with lots of things beyond class registration.

Every student at BSC get assigned an advisor. If you are coming in as an undeclared student (in other words, you haven't picked a major yet), you'll be a member of University College at Buffalo State. As UC student, you'll get lots of advisement and other help to navigate your first year (and pick a major). If you need more info on classes right away, you can call the Academic Advising Center at 716-878-5223 and talk to them today!

Hope that helps and can't wait to see you in the fall! rolleyes.gif
