Now is the time to verify your schedule in Banner (View/Print schedule). If you are waiting on a response from an instructor, attempt to contact the instructor now. If the instructor is not available, call the department office and ask if someone can assist you. A list of departments and phone numbers are available online.

If you are on a waitlist for a course, check the schedule to see if another section has seats available. It’s always a best practice to secure a seat in a course as soon as possible, do not wait until the start of the semester.

Remember to print a copy of your course schedule after each change. This will give you a handy reference for your current enrollment and can be shown to instructors.

Most of your questions can be answered on the Registrar's Office Registration webpage.

Changes requiring instructor assistance should be completed no later than Friday, August 25th. Registration ends Monday, September 4th at 11:59 pm. If you are attending a class that does not show on your Banner Student Detail Schedule, you must add the class as soon as possible but no later than Sept. 4.

If you decide you don't want a course, it is your responsibility and very important to drop the course as soon as possible. Non-attendance does not equate to a drop. If you no longer want a class, you must drop the course no later than Sept. 4 and print out a copy of the Student Detail Schedule for your records. Failure to drop a registered course that you don't attend will result in a final grade of E.

There are no drops after Sept. 4. Starting Sept. 5, to leave a class you must withdraw online in Banner. Sept. 4 is the last day to leave a class without financial penalty. Your refund percentages based on date of withdrawal, are available on the Student Accounts Refunds and Financial Liability webpage.

You may contact the Registrar's Office via email at REGOFC@buffalostate.edu or call 716.878.4811.

All registration-related activity for Fall 2017 must be completed in Banner by 11:59 pm on Monday, September 4th. Students will then have the ability to Late Add courses starting at 12:01 am on Tuesday, September 5th and ending at 11:59 pm on Thursday, September 14th. A student who wishes to ADD a course during this timeframe will be able to add the class to their Add or Drop Courses Worksheet in Banner self-service (SSB). This action will generate an email that the student can forward to the course instructor. If the faculty member accepts the request, they will enter an Instructor Permission override for the student in Banner and the student will then register for the course. It is important to note that students are strongly encouraged to be attending the course and as up to date as possible when asking for instructor permission through the late add process. Each successful late add processed will be assessed a $20 late add fee.

Independent Study, Course by Contract, and Special Project forms are due in the Registrar's Office (Moot Hall 210) by Friday, September 1st. Forms are available at most academic department offices as well as the Moot Hall lobby in front of the Registrar's Office. Policies governing these alternative means of earning credit are available in the UG catalog. You are required to get the signatures of both the instructor and department chair to be approved for one of these options.

You can only DROP a course in Banner through the first week of classes. Specifically, through the end of registration, which ends on Monday, September 4th at 11:59 pm in Banner.

If you want to DROP a class after September 4th, it is NOT a drop but a Withdrawal from Course. When you DROP a class you have no financial liability, but after the first week of class, Withdrawals carry the possibility of financial penalties. See the Schedule of Refund Eligibility.

DROPS can be completed easily online in Banner. Withdrawal from Course is also done online in Banner.

DROPS do not show on your official academic record. Withdrawals are recorded as "W" next to the class, although they have no effect on your average.

It is always recommended that you complete all registrations, including DROPS and adds prior to the first day of class which is August 28th. If you need to make changes during the first week, please complete your DROPS as soon as you can as a courtesy to the faculty, who are working hard for you.

NON-ATTENDANCE in a class does not constitute an official withdrawal.

September 4th (11:59 pm) is the deadline to drop Fall 2017 classes or withdraw without financial penalty.

If an override is granted in Banner, you must then attempt to register for the course again by entering the CRN on the ADD CLASSES WORKSHEET at the bottom of the ADD OR DROP CLASSES page and SUBMIT. You must select SUBMIT to be successful.

Do not attempt to search for the section using LOOK UP CLASSES. The course may not appear available especially if it's closed because it has reached maximum enrollment capacity.

A reminder that cross-registration is available in fall and spring semesters only. SUNY cross-registration does not have a credit hour limit per semester, this is new-effective Fall 2017. It's important to note the following items: If you are taking a class at a community college as part of cross-registration-you are responsible for providing proof of county residency to host college and you may be billed directly by host college for college fees and course fees if applicable. View detailed cross-registration information on the Cross Registration webpage.

A best practice is to always print a copy of the student detail class schedule each time you change your registration in Banner. Without a printed copy, you may miss an error.

Use the Student Detail Class Schedule to see detailed information on the classes you are registered for in a printable format. It is recommended that you always print the most updated version of your schedule after you complete any add/drop activity.
  • Choose Student Detail Schedule.
  • Choose the printer friendly version if desired (choose Submit).
  • Choose to Print from your Internet browser.
  • Keep your printed copy as proof of registration.

A tutorial is also now available on How to View/Print Class Schedule.
