If you really don't like it, you can also ask to switched to another hall. In order for room switches to take places there has to be someone in another hall willing to switch. |

I was in Porter last year, and if you like a lot of crazy interesting stuff going on and partying, and drunks passed out in the toilet...then porter is for you...but porter has alot of fire alarms that go off at any hour of the day... and if your in porter beware of the bigger elevator, cause that thing is a death trap...but overall I would say that Perry is the nicest freshman dorm, but i think overall we would all like to live in tower 3 8th floor...

Yea...This is my second year here, but I didn't dorm at all the past 2 semesters so this is all basically new to me. By the way, those that asked me how did I find out.....all I did was call and ask have assignments been made and when packages would be sent out. When I found out I had been assigned, I asked where...and I got an answer :-D |

I think that there are gonna be parties in all the halls, but for freshman probably Perry or Neuman would be best, if you aren't into partying on a nightly basis. I'm hoping I don't get into Porter. Partying is great, but I'm going to school for more than that.

That's exactly how I feel. I think that if people quit partying once a week and studied on that "night off," their grades would go up. Yea...definitely, I hope its not an every nite thing because I couldn't deal with that on a nightly basis. My GPA is good, and I wouldn't want not nor let partying ruin it |

I lived in Porter the past year, and plan to live there again this next semester. There were positive and negative aspects to it, but overall, I've liked it there. I think things are a little calmer and cleaner up on the 7th, 8th, and 9th floors than on the bottom where a lot of the freshman are. The RA's seemed to be pretty good. On weeknights, I tend to find it easier to go to the library to study than to have to rely on it being quiet enough there. And the fire drills are annoying, but we only ended up having a few by the end of the year. I think they have mostly fixed that problem.

From the sounds of it i don't want to be in porter which is where i have been asigned- on the fifth floor. I'm not much inot partying and I don't think that it would at all be conducive to my education. The "big whigs" at orientation kept saying how they wanted people to learn outside of the classroom- what am i supposed to learn in a dorm where there is a lot of partying- how to be annoyed and tired?

I'm on the 2nd, so it'll probably be worse for me. But, oh well. They didn't put me in Porter (thank the stars), they gave me Perry Hall. I checked Porter as a preference on my housing application but when my friends kept telling me how that's party central, I changed that fast... to Neumann but I heard that the Learning communities are in neumann so I've come to the conclusion that's why I didn't get in there. I haven't heard anything bad about Perry. Good luck to all living in Porter (from what these ppl are saying, you'll need it). |
