If an override is granted, you must then attempt to register for the course again by entering the CRN on the ADD CLASSES WORKSHEET at the bottom of the ADD OR DROP CLASSES page and submit. You must select SUBMIT to be successful.

Do not attempt to search for the section (LOOK UP CLASSES) so you can choose a box under SELECT. The course will not appear as available especially if it's closed because it has reached maximum capacity.

Registration Add Error: First Steps

  • You receive a "Registration Add Error" and want to pursue registering for the course.
  • Forward the detailed email you receive to the instructor of the course requesting an override for the restriction.
  • Instructor determines (through department policy) if you should be granted the override.
  • You can check for the override status in the Registration Status link in Banner.
  • If the override is granted, you must then attempt to register for the course again by entering the CRN on the worksheet and submitting. You must select submit. Do not attempt to search for the section and select box. The course will not appear as available especially if it's closed due to reaching the maximum capacity.

Next Steps: Reviewing Your Schedule

  • Use the Student Detail Class Schedule to see detailed information on the classes you are registered for in a printable format.
  • Choose View Required Books, Course Materials and Printable Schedule.
  • Select a Term and SUBMIT.
  • Click on SUBMIT to view Printer-friendly version of the class schedule.

The deadline for Withdrawal from Course or to submit an Application for Pass/Fail is Friday Nov. 3. Policies for Withdrawal from Course and Pass/Fail are copied below from the 2016-2017 Undergraduate Catalog.

Pass-Fail Option

The pass-fail option permits any matriculated student to take a course for credit without receiving a letter grade of A, B, C, D, E, or EV. Students may enroll in one course each semester or summer on a pass-fail basis. All sessions combined make up the summer semester. A pass (P) grade provides credit but no quality points and is not counted in total hours used to determine cumulative average. A fail (F) grade is treated as a failure although the hours are not used in computing the cumulative average.

A pass-fail credit may be applied toward a degree. Courses required for the student’s major and minor cannot be taken on a pass-fail basis. Courses taken as part of early childhood and childhood education program concentrations and distributions may not be taken pass-fail.

Any course, except English composition 100-level courses and those required for completion of a major or a minor, may be taken on a pass-fail basis. Students must declare their intention to do so by the end of the 10th week of classes in any semester or after two-thirds of a Summer Session or January Term. After receiving the approval signature of the student’s adviser, a declaration of intent must be filed with the Registrar’s Office, Moot Hall, by the published deadline. An instructor may choose to substitute a letter grade for the pass if written consent from the student is received and the form is submitted prior to the end of the semester. Once an application for pass-fail has been submitted, the pass-fail option for that semester has been exhausted. Subsequent filing of a substitution form to receive a letter grade does not allow submission of another pass-fail application for that semester.

Students may not use pass-fail to repeat a course for which a grade of C- or below was earned.

Note: Students are cautioned that the amount of pass-fail work permitted may jeopardize their chances for admission to graduate or professional school or for career placement.

Withdrawal from Courses

Instructors are required to notify students of their academic standing no later than the end of the ninth week of the semester, or after two-thirds of a summer session or January Term. If a student does not officially withdraw from a course and stops attending, a grade of E will be recorded.

Students who wish to leave a course after the drop/add period and before the final withdrawal date (the end of the 10th week of the semester, or after two-thirds of a Summer Session or January Term) may withdraw via Self Service Banner. Nonattendance at the first class meeting does not withdraw a student from a class.

Students withdrawing from some coursework may be eligible for a refund in accordance with the college refund schedule, which is posted each term at http://studentaccounts.buffalostate.edu/. Beyond the end of the refund schedule’s time limit, full charges are assessed. Student-teaching courses have different deadlines. Students should check with their departments.

Withdrawals remain on the transcript and are recorded as W’s but do not count in credit hours or GPAs. Withdrawal from a course may affect eligibility for financial aid in the current semester and in future semesters. For additional information about financial aid eligibility, refer to the financial aid section of this catalog, or online at http://financialaid.buffalostate.edu/.

Before withdrawing from a course, careful thought should be given to the reasons for withdrawing and possible consequences. Course Withdrawals can have a negative impact on both your progress toward graduation and eligibility for financial aid. Withdrawal from Course should be used infrequently and considered an action of last resort. It is to your advantage to read the instructions under Withdrawal from Course at http://registrar.buffalostate.edu/withdrawal-course before withdrawing.

Now is the time to verify your schedule in Banner (View/Print schedule). If you are waiting on a response from an instructor, attempt to contact the instructor now. If the instructor is not available, call the department office and ask if someone can assist you. A list of departments and phone numbers are available online.

If you are on a waitlist for a course, check the schedule to see if another section has seats available. It’s always a best practice to secure a seat in a course as soon as possible, do not wait until the start of the semester.

Remember to print a copy of your course schedule after each change. This will give you a handy reference for your current enrollment and can be shown to instructors.

Most of your questions can be answered on the Registrar's Office Registration webpage.

Changes requiring instructor assistance should be completed no later than Friday, August 25th. Registration ends Monday, September 4th at 11:59 pm. If you are attending a class that does not show on your Banner Student Detail Schedule, you must add the class as soon as possible but no later than Sept. 4.

If you decide you don't want a course, it is your responsibility and very important to drop the course as soon as possible. Non-attendance does not equate to a drop. If you no longer want a class, you must drop the course no later than Sept. 4 and print out a copy of the Student Detail Schedule for your records. Failure to drop a registered course that you don't attend will result in a final grade of E.

There are no drops after Sept. 4. Starting Sept. 5, to leave a class you must withdraw online in Banner. Sept. 4 is the last day to leave a class without financial penalty. Your refund percentages based on date of withdrawal, are available on the Student Accounts Refunds and Financial Liability webpage.

You may contact the Registrar's Office via email at REGOFC@buffalostate.edu or call 716.878.4811.

All registration-related activity for Fall 2017 must be completed in Banner by 11:59 pm on Monday, September 4th. Students will then have the ability to Late Add courses starting at 12:01 am on Tuesday, September 5th and ending at 11:59 pm on Thursday, September 14th. A student who wishes to ADD a course during this timeframe will be able to add the class to their Add or Drop Courses Worksheet in Banner self-service (SSB). This action will generate an email that the student can forward to the course instructor. If the faculty member accepts the request, they will enter an Instructor Permission override for the student in Banner and the student will then register for the course. It is important to note that students are strongly encouraged to be attending the course and as up to date as possible when asking for instructor permission through the late add process. Each successful late add processed will be assessed a $20 late add fee.

You can only DROP a course in Banner through the first week of classes. Specifically, through the end of registration, which ends on Monday, September 4th at 11:59 pm in Banner.

If you want to DROP a class after September 4th, it is NOT a drop but a Withdrawal from Course. When you DROP a class you have no financial liability, but after the first week of class, Withdrawals carry the possibility of financial penalties. See the Schedule of Refund Eligibility.

DROPS can be completed easily online in Banner. Withdrawal from Course is also done online in Banner.

DROPS do not show on your official academic record. Withdrawals are recorded as "W" next to the class, although they have no effect on your average.

It is always recommended that you complete all registrations, including DROPS and adds prior to the first day of class which is August 28th. If you need to make changes during the first week, please complete your DROPS as soon as you can as a courtesy to the faculty, who are working hard for you.

NON-ATTENDANCE in a class does not constitute an official withdrawal.

September 4th (11:59 pm) is the deadline to drop Fall 2017 classes or withdraw without financial penalty.

If an override is granted in Banner, you must then attempt to register for the course again by entering the CRN on the ADD CLASSES WORKSHEET at the bottom of the ADD OR DROP CLASSES page and SUBMIT. You must select SUBMIT to be successful.

Do not attempt to search for the section using LOOK UP CLASSES. The course may not appear available especially if it's closed because it has reached maximum enrollment capacity.
