hate to disappoint you, but get used to this stuff. buff state takes forever with financial aid issues.

as long as they have some sort of ID it'll be fine, they don't need a buffalo state ID.

the computers in the library get priority over computers in the dorms on the network, so if the network gets busy the dorm computers are the first to slow down.

don't even bother trying to connect during bengal pause, though. you won't be able to find a computer in the library, and the computers in the dorms are virtually useless.

how is that not like other years? i didn't get my refund until november last year, and wasn't anticipating getting it any earlier than that this year.

not necessarily. it's all in who you're living with, and who you know.

if you know the right people, it doesn't matter where you live, you'll have a good time.

i love how mathgeni answers more questions here than the reslife dept. does.

seriously, i find it entertaining.

come to think of it, i think i answer more questions than reslife does. that's pretty sad.

you obviously followed that story real closely, since you've got the facts so straight.

the guy who got stabbed was my roommate, and it was not drug related. it was a carry over from a fight that had started the previous day, and more than two people were involved. my roommate and the guy who stabbed him were both students, but not everyone involved in that fight was.

QUOTE (davefess @ Aug 10 2007, 11:21 PM) *
so i was wondering some things also about the hotels

is there going to be any kind of refund of our money for housing?
do they supply frigerators?
is there are way i can change my meal plan since i wont be on campus to get the all you can eat brekfests?
and wahts the guest policy?
im sorry i have to ask on here, but trying to get questions answered over the phone is like pulling teeth, i understand that the residence life office has a lot to deal with right now but you would think that their attitudes towards students would be a bit nicer, were just trying to figure out whats going on with our schooling and how much $$ we need to have.

no, there isn't a refund. the school actually loses money by putting you in a hotel, so they can't issue a refund.

you'll have to supply your own fridge.

they offered the option of changing your meal plan last year, though the all you can eat breakfast only exists at the hotels, not on campus.

the guest policy is the same as on campus.

hope that's helpful.

the underground cafe on campus isn't bad, though cute it certainly isn't.

coffee makers are allowed if they have an automatic shutoff, but if they don't you can't have it.

i had one all last year. it saved me a lot of money (i drink coffee all day in the winter).

i'll be in tower 2, on the eighth floor.

there's a list on the reslife page of stuff to bring, and not to bring. you should check that out.

laundry at the hotel last year was free. i don't know what the deal will be this year.

really, the only thing you get shafted on is that the hotels are about two miles from campus. other than that they're great. plus, the holiday inn is right near allentown, and the hyatt is right near chippewa, so if you wanna party at the clubs or bars you're set.

eh, the holiday inn only had like 30 channels, but two of them were hbo channels.

and they provide a tv, so it's at least one less thing you have to bring.

standard double rooms. no kitchens. bring your own mini fridge, they won't have one.

the internet is free (wireless), and you can have guests.

the hotel i lived in last year was a blast. i had a really good time there.

it does depend on when you sent in your housing stuff sometimes, but mixups happen as well, as i'm sure you'll notice if you read through enough of this board.

and it's doubtful you'd spend the whole freshman year in a hotel, most likely one semester at the absolute most, probably less than that.

if you don't have a room assignment yet there is a good chance you will be placed in a hotel.

i lived in the holiday inn for most of my first semester, and it was actually nicer than living on campus. plus they had free coffee in the lobby.

the hotels aren't too far from campus, either, so it's not really bad at all.

um, sadly, no. there isn't any way out. and you're right, it isn't fair.

last year i heard rumors (i don't know how true they were, though) that students who were in triples for a long period of time got a small part of there housing bill refunded.

i don't think any kitchen appliances are allowed. pots and pans, maybe, for use in the communal kitchens, but nothing else.

you should have plenty of space to get dressed after showering. at least in the men's bathrooms you do.

the dorm chairs vary by building, but it doesn't really matter since we're not allowed to bring any furniture, either. they'll call it a fire hazard. even folding chairs.

as far as things you'll get there and suddenly realize you need, i wouldn't worry too much. somewhere on the reslife page there's a list of stuff to think about bringing, and if you get there and realize there's something you need, just head to target or kmart and pick it up.

target is close. there's also a kmart and a wegmans nearby. anything you want and forgot to bring can probably be bought at one of the three.

i agree wholeheartedly with mathgeni. while the campus is very diverse, it's not divided. ethnicity is not really an issue for the most part, and most people are quite accepting.

married couples without children can live in moore complex, but you'll have to be on a waiting list for several years and living on campus that whole time.

in other words, your best bet is to just find an apt. off campus. it's probably much cheaper anyway.
