Its probably easier to leave the big stuff (fridge, bedding and things of that nature) behind. Meaning put in storage. All your child really needs to take back is their clothes and misc items. But depending on how far away you live, it could become a task, a feat alot of people do not like to engage in. Your child can always share storage space with their friends to cut back on costs.

Why do you think it was a mistake?

The Student Advantage card is pretty useful if you plan on using greyhound and amtrak a lot or shopping from certain merchants online. Its not that expensive and it gives you a discount when you buy from certain places.

You can just take the 20 bus and go downtown and get off at allen street. I cant remember the name of the place, but its dominicans that do hair and if you dont want that, there is a black salon on main street.

As for nails, you can also take the 20 bus towards tops and target and in the tops plaza theres a place to do nails there.

Feel free to ask any questions

You can just go to target and get one of those shower rods and then buy a shower curtain or whatever to hide your 'closet' space.

QUOTE (Shelly @ May 25 2008, 03:11 AM) *
My son is going to start in the fall and I was wondering how you other parents out there handle this situation. Is it a good idea to get a card for our kids in college? It seems like nowadays that's the best way to monitor and control their spending, but it also seems a little bit frightening to me. If you do get your kid a card, do you co-sign on it or just put it in their name? I kind of want to put it just in his name so he is responsible if he goes out of line, but if it's in his name then that wouldn't give me much control over his credit limit, etc. Does anyone know if there's any credit cards out there for students that are specially designed for this purpose? I haven't found any but would like to know. The card i was thinking of getting my son is one from Discover that gives him a 5% rebate on his gas (this is a review I read that made me lean towards this credit card) But is there a better card out there that will give me more control?

Please guys I'm lost, any feedback on how you handle your kids first credit card would be appreciated (IMG:http://ask.buffalostate.edu/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

You can just take your son to HSBC or Bank Of America and open a student checking account. He gets a debit card and a credit card. If you give him pocket money, he can use the debit card to make his purchases or withdraw money. There is an HSBC branch which is like less that 10 min walk from Buffalo State. The credit cards that are given usually have a limit, so he cant splurge!!

Thanks, im a sophmore. The credits wouldnt really count towards anything or fulfill any requirement. So i dont see why I should suffer through it, pass/fail or not. I dropped the class.

Im changing my major frm Business to Economics and I dont need the class. Plus regardless, my hopes of passing arent in my favor n its easier to drop than let it hurt my GPA

How does one go about withdrawing from a course? And can we do it now, or one has to wait?

The whole roommate experience can be very new to some. The best way to get over it is just to accept the person for who they are. If your daughters are more outgoing and the roommates are quiet and shy, encourage your daughter to just be nice and try and include them in activities if they please, be it a simple thing like going to grab lunch together or a trip to the store....For all you know, the roommate may think your daughter is strange!! Just be accepting and the other person will open up in time....As for someone who doesnt particularly leave the room, there isnt too much to do, if you dont want to see them in the room, go hang out in your friends room. Change doesnt occur overnite. At the end of the day, they may not be alike, but if nothing else, they should have mutual respect for eachother.

Is it possible to live in porter as a sophmore? I mean I know alot of people usually go to the towers, and ive seen it, just doesnt look like somewhere i would want to live....Too claustrophobic??
Also if I fill out my housing n dont put a roommate, i take it i get some random person....id rather live in porter than the towers

People here give you the run around....You ask a question and they give some BS answer and send you elsewhere to confirm and then that person sends you elsewhere...Seriously, advisors need to step up and help a student out.
